Spring Cleaning and such...

We've done a bit more around the house, which is always fun. We've owned our home for nearly a year now... I can't even believe it! Since we bought the house, we've been improving/decorating it little by little. This round, it was Jack's room that got the makeover!

When we moved in, his room still looked like a baby room, complete with rocking chair and crib. When he turned two, we exchanged the rocker for a little toy kitchen, and now, we've exchanged the crib for the most adorable little toddler bed (courtesy of Auntie Nikki and Uncle Aaron). We did some rearranging of furniture and toys, and now, his room looks like a little boy's room. We're keeping the pirate theme (because how could I not...). He also acquired a TV and DVD player. Chris found a Mickey Mouse TV at a garage sale for $10. It's super cute, small, and he can now watch movies in his room. He no longer has toys in the living room, they all fit in his room! Can we say Hallelujah? He knows that he can play with them in the living room, but they all get put away at night! Thanks to Etsy, I found a wall decal of a pirate ship to put on the wall above his bed. I have a few more things I want to do in his room, but the bulk of it is DONE for a long time!

The bookshelf in my room is now in Jack's room, to house his ever-growing book collection (the kid is mine!) and his TV. As such, the number of books in my room is drastically reduced. I took the little cabinet we had as an end table in the living room and put it in my room, I also rescued the microwave cart from the garage and it's in my room too! The wood matches the wood in my room, and it just looks like shelving, not like misplaced kitchen furniture.

Our living room is now home to 2 new chairs, thanks to a trip to IKEA. Our chair is SO comfy, and they had a kid sized version, so away went the perpetually stained blue gingham mini recliner! As cute as it was, keeping it clean was a joke. The new chair has machine washable upholstery, perfect for a family with a rambunctious two year old with a fondness for grape juice.

We've talked a bit about future projects we'd like to accomplish, large and small. We want to do some work on our front yard. I would love a little herb garden. We want to put stepping stones between the front and back yards, and possibly a small gate. We have some major weeding and pruning to do too. We want to get to the point where this summer, we're spending time entertaining outdoors. We have great space outside, it would be nice to use it! When we go over to visit our friends Jon and Tim, we spend all of our time outside, grilling and eating. I love it. It screams summer.

Eventually, we'd like to do something with our backyard too, but what we will do remains a mystery. I love the fruit trees back there, so those stay. Chris keeps mentioning a hot tub, but I'm not convinced that the increased utility costs and maintenance costs are worth it. I guess we shall see!

In other news, our next trip that's in the works is a trip to Disneyland in November. It's time for Jack to observe this VERY IMPORTANT rite of passage for his mommy's side of the family. I'm so excited I can barely stand it!

And now off to work on dinner. Have a lovely day everyone!
